My Notion Dashboard 3.0

Shared Jul 29, 2020

👋 Hello There

Context: I run optemization.com, a no-code productivity consultancy where I help busy people build organization systems and habits to free up more time and focus for getting important sh*t done.

3.0: This is the third version of my dashboard. Here's version one and two.

Files: download the visuals of the dashboard below.

🗺️ Workspace Structure

My Notion workspace has 14 databases. I keep them all in one page and use linked views to interact with them on dashboards. I have one general dashboard that I spent 90% of my Notion time on. The rest are templated dashboard for specific tasks or client facing projects.

Sometimes I find it useful to open dashboard sections in a single view that's arranged differently. That's why some sections have a ⤢ character. For example, I can open my three column setup of meetings in a calendar view:

💯 Tasks

Two columns of linked views of Tasks database

Client: tasks that are related to client projects

The P.type filter not showing up is a bug. It's filtering for this field being "not empty"

Unassigned: tasks that do not have a project assigned to them

🎁 Tips & Tricks

Icons

If you're thinking to use their Notion website hosting service, please ask me for affiliate link

Special Characters

The two buttons you see right justified on most sections allow me to navigate the dashboard and respective sections easier.

I used a bunch of spaces to put these buttons inline with section titles:

  • Open section in a full screen (see this): ⤢ → Show expanded view GIF
  • Go to the top of the dashboard: ⇪

New Windows

I often open Notion in multiple windows, here's how:

cmd + shift + n: open current page in new window cmd + shift + click : open selected page in new window cmd + enter : open selected page in quick search in a new window

Screen Sizes and dashboards

I have a 13 inch Macbook hooked up to an XDR display. In full-screen mode, Notion adjusts to the dimensions of the screen, so I have two version of the same dashboard. That was the titles with a bunch of aforementioned spaces don't overflow onto two lines.
